the application process
Capital IDEA's application process is extensive and requires a significant amount of your time and commitment. Our career counselors will assist you determine whether you will be able to meet the commitment involved in going to school full-time. You will meet with them to discuss your chosen career path, setting goals, evaluating your priorities, and developing a budget. You must complete the entire application process before enrolling with Capital IDEA. You are eligible to apply for acceptance in Capital IDEA if you meet the minimum criteria.
Below is an overview of the application process. Your individual experience may differ slightly depending on your situation; the outline below is intended to give you a rough idea of what to expect. On average, it takes six weeks from the time you attend an Orientation until you enroll in classes.
The Application Process
1. Orientation. The first step for everyone is to attend a one-hour orientation session. Orientations are held three times annually. Just choose the one that is most convenient for you-there is no need to sign up ahead of time or bring any documentation. However, as with all Capital IDEA events, YOU MUST BE ON TIME. We close the doors after we start and you will need to go to the next orientation.
2. Testing Sign-up. We offer several days when you can come and sign-up for a testing spot. At this time you will be expected to bring paperwork identified at the Orientation. There are many Testing dates and times offered, so you should be able to find one that best fits your schedule.
3. Testing. Testing takes place in our office downtown. We assess your reading, writing, and math levels, as well as other skills. This is to determine at what level you need to begin your education.
4. ISS. You will meet with a Career Counselor to discuss your test results, career goals, and potential challenges.
5. PET. At this last interview you will meet with one of Capital IDEA’s Directors who will make the final decision to accept you into Capital IDEA.
6. Enroll in Classes. After you receive your admission to Capital IDEA, you will meet with your new Career Counselor and enroll in classes. This is just the beginning of your new life!
