Career Profile
This program is designed to prepare the student for entry level accounting positions in accounting firms, industry, or government. An Accounting Technician works under close supervision and performs entry-level accounting duties, work involves performing detailed assignments in computing, recording, classifying, examining, and analyzing financial records, documents, or reports. The technician may perform any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. He or she may also check the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings pertaining to business transactions recorded by other workers.
Job Outlook
Virtually all job openings for bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks through 2009 will stem from replacement needs. Each year, numerous jobs will become available, as these clerks transfer to other occupations or leave the labor force. Although turnover is lower than among other record clerks, the large size of the occupation ensures plentiful job openings.
