A Proud Mom, Expecting Twins, and a Homeowner
By Iris Zamarripa | DECEMBER 12, 2025
When Blagica moved to the United States from Macedonia in 2012, she carried with her a dream of going to college. As a healthcare worker in her native country, she wanted to continue her education in the U.S. But after landing in New Jersey without resources, support, or a community, that dream slowly slipped from reach. Nearly a decade later, in 2021, she and her husband called Austin their new home—she was seven months pregnant, a new stay-at-home mom, and in a city where she knew no one. The isolation was heavy, but the desire to continue her education never left. What stood in her way felt daunting: finances, confidence, and the fear that her language barriers would hold her back.
Everything changed the day a friend forwarded her an email about 100% free college through Capital IDEA. “This is your chance,” her friend urged.
At first, Blagica was skeptical.
“I had always wanted to return to school, but when I found out I was pregnant with my second child, I knew it was time to make a change for my family’s future… With support from my husband and Capital IDEA, quitting wasn’t an option. I wasn’t going to waste the opportunity.”
“Who would pay for your school?” she wondered. It seemed too good to be true. However, her husband, Antonio, who was also attending school, encouraged her to look further into the program. After reading the success stories of Capital IDEA alumni—stories of individuals who have faced similar challenges—she realized the opportunity was real. Soon after, Blagica applied to the Capital IDEA program and was accepted! She decided to switch fields and pursue a degree in Cybersecurity, believing that this new path would provide the work-life balance and salary that her growing family needed, and it did!

Blagica started her journey in January 2022 in the College Prep Academy. With support from her ACC instructors and her Capital IDEA Career Navigator, she passed the college entrance exam and began her academic journey to a Cybersecurity specialization. Balancing motherhood, work, and college was not easy—especially with young children who needed her attention, regardless of whether she was taking exams or exhausted.
“Time management was my biggest challenge. Kids don’t understand when you’re exhausted or need a break—they need you even when you have classes, exams, and homework.”

Despite the strain, Blagica established a structured and disciplined routine that helped her juggle parenting, part-time work, and school. Capital IDEA’s support ensured she didn’t have to face these challenges alone. Her Career Navigators, Lori and Burel, checked in often, kept her organized, and ensured she always felt championed. Due to her determination and the service of Capital IDEA, in her third semester, Blagica secured a paid IT internship at ACC.
“My Navigators consistently checked in and made me feel seen, supported, and cared for. They truly want students to succeed.”

And succeed she did! In August 2025, Blagica completed her associate’s degree in Local Area Network Systems with a Cybersecurity Specialization, and just one month later, she was offered a role in the IT Business Office at ACC. Her internship transitioned into a full-time position; for Blagica and her growing family, the transformation was life-changing.
“Capital IDEA completely transformed my life. My paid internship helped us financially and prepared me for my future career. Now I’m a proud mom of two girls, expecting twins, and a homeowner—living the American dream.”
But her journey isn’t over. Blagica is now pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science in Cybersecurity at ACC, with plans for a master’s degree. She continues to stay involved in her community and shares her story to inspire others, especially students who might be afraid to ask for help or unsure if college is possible for them.

“If you ever get the chance to connect with Capital IDEA, take it. Don’t waste the opportunity, it can change your life for the better.”
Looking ahead, she dreams of a future filled with health, happiness, and educational opportunities for her children. She hopes her story serves as a reminder of what’s possible when determination meets the right support.
To donors and supporters, she offers heartfelt gratitude: “I think donors and supporters are our biggest cheerleaders. Their generosity doesn’t just change the life of the student—it lifts entire families. It takes a big heart to do that.”
Blagica’s story is a powerful testament to what happens when a dream is given room to grow. With courage, a supportive community, and the assistance of Capital IDEA, she created a future that once felt unattainable. Blagica’s husband, Antonio, and their children were recently featured in ACC’s “Day in the Life of Parenting Students” documentary.
“Both me and my wife are on work-study at ACC. We also go to school. It’s not easy, but it’s manageable…My wife is the light of my day. She’s like my best friend.” – Antonio
