Step-by-Step Instructions

Sign Up for Info Session

Time: 30 minutes

Fill Out the Application

Time: 15–20 minutes

Note: If you get a “duplicate error”, don’t worry. Just reach out. We’ll do a quick check and get you to the next step: 512-485-9350 or email info@capitalidea.org.

Upload Your Documents

Time: 30 minutes – 2 hours

Once you apply, you'll get an email to set your password for the document dashboard. Set it up before the link expires.

Take Your Assessment

Time: 30 minutes

Once Steps 1–4 are complete, your application is officially submitted. Next, we’ll schedule your final steps.

After submitting your documents, we’ll review and send you an email with the assessment link within 3 business days.

This assessment compares your personality and aptitudes with your career interests. We’ll use your results to guide you.

Meet with a Career Guidance Specialist

Time: 1 hour

We’ll contact you to schedule a one-on-one appointment to talk through your eligibility, college path, and career plans.

Commitment Interview

Time: 30 minutes

In this final step, expect to talk about these important commitments:

  • making school a priority
  • finishing your degree
  • starting your career right after graduation
  • working in Central Texas for at least 2 years
  • giving back to your community in any way you choose

Instructions on Uploading Documents

  1. Set Your Password
    One you submit your application, check your email for a link. Set your password within 48 hours. If you miss the window, use the ‘Forgot My Password’ link on the login page.
  2. Gather Your Documents
    Take clear photos or use a scanning app to create digital copies of all of the documents you’ll be submitting. See the full list of required documents below.
  3. Log In to Your Dashboard
    We recommend bookmarking the page. Login Page
  4. Open the Upload Form
    From Menu → “All Assigned Forms” → Select “New Applicants – Upload Documents”
  5. Follow the Prompts
    Answer questions and upload documents where prompted. If you’re missing some, go ahead and upload what you have.
  6. Submit by Clicking ‘Save’
    You can come back later to submit as many ‘Upload Documents’ forms as needed. Click the ‘View Form Submissions’ button in your dashboard to see your previous submissions.

Required Documents

To complete your application, you’ll need to gather a few key documents. Having these ready in advance will make the process smoother and faster.

Quick Checklist

(Most Applicants Need These)

If you’re applying for yourself and don’t have a spouse, partner, or kids, you’ll likely need just these to get started:

  • Driver’s license or other state-issued ID

  • Social security card

  • Birth certificate or permanent residency card

  • High school diploma, GED, or college transcript

  • Pay stubs for the past month

  • Most recent tax return

  • Lease, mortgage, or proof of residence

Check below for additional documents that may apply to your situation.

Household IDs

Do you live with a spouse, partner, or children?

  • If no, submit these for yourself:

    • Driver’s license or other state-issued ID
    • Social security card
    • Birth certificate (or permanent residency card)

  • If yes, also submit:

    • For your spouse or partner: One form of ID (birth certificate, SS card, passport, driver’s license, or state ID)
    • For each child or dependent: Birth certificate. If under 12, also submit SS card.

Housing Documents

Do you have a lease or mortgage in your name?

  • If yes, submit a copy of your lease or mortgage statement

No lease or mortgage? Living with friends/family?

  • Submit all of the following:

    1. A letter from the head of household confirming you live there and whether you’ll stay during school
    2. A utility bill with their name and address
    3. A piece of mail addressed to you at that same address

Education Documents

Have you been to college?

  • If yes, submit college transcripts (unofficial is okay)

  • If no, submit high school diploma or GED

Income Documents

Do you or your spouse/partner work or receive income?

  • Pay stubs for one month (you and/or your partner)

  • Most recently filed tax return

  • If applicable: documentation of retirement income, SSI, Worker’s Comp, or Disability benefits

Assistance Documents (if applicable)

Do you receive public benefits or outside financial help?

  • If yes, submit documentation for any of the following that apply:

    • Food stamps (SNAP), Medicaid, Medicare, WIC, TANF/AFDC
    • Unemployment, child support, housing or utility assistance, refugee aid

Getting help from family or friends?

  • If yes, ask them to write a letter of support including:

    • Their contact info
    • How much support they provide
    • Whether that support will continue while you’re in school

Selective Service & Military Families (if applicable)

Have you or your spouse served in the military?

  • If yes, submit a copy of your DD214

Are you a male U.S. citizens or immigrants between the ages of 18 and 25?

  • If yes, submit proof of Selective Service registration

    (get it at www.sss.gov)

Financial Aid Documents (if applicable)

Have you received financial aid for college?

  • If yes, submit documentation for any grants, scholarships, or loans, such as:

    • Pell Grant, SEOG, TPEG
    • Private or institutional scholarships
    • Education loans

Criminal History (if applicable)

Do you have a criminal record?

  • If yes, submit a copy of your criminal background report from DPS
